Work and Travel Insurance
It is a requirement of the Visitoz programme that participants carry full work and travel insurance.
This should provide cover for the participant when performing manual and outdoor work, farm work, or work in any volunteering capacity. Typically the farm work component of this insurance should include work with livestock, other farm and domestic animals and use of farm vehicles, machinery and tools.
Most work and travel insurance policies include cover for recreational and adventurous activities such as sports, winter sports, tours and adventure activities such as kayaking, surfing, snorkelling and many others.
Policies typically provide cover for lost or stolen property, cancellations etc. but, most importantly, provide medical and repatriation cover in case of injury or serious injury.
Visitoz believes that such cover is an essential part of a safe work and travel experience and it is therefore a requirement of our programme that suitable insurances are held.
Employers will also have insurances that cover for work on their farm, including liability and use of equipment and machinery, etc with their permission.
For those participants from the UK, SWEDEN, THE NETHERLANDS, FINLAND, NORWAY, ITALY, MALTA and BELGIUM, we will apply for a Medicare card once they arrive in Australia.
They will need to bring a EUROPEAN HEALTH CARD if they come from these countries– the Medicare office will always accept these and they are easy to obtain from their home country. Also accepted is the Internationellt Forsäkringsbevis from Forsäkringskassan if they are Swedish; the National Insurance card if they are a British, Norwegian or Finnish subject. For Italian citizens, they need a certificate of residence in Italy if they wish to have the free Medicare (valid for 6 months only).
Participants may buy their insurance package where they choose, however please make sure that the policy they buy covers them for agricultural (farm) work, outdoor labour, and use of farm tools, equipment and machinery with the owners permission. In particular this should include motorbikes up to 250cc and chainsaws.
