Invest in your second VISA
88 days of work in rural Australia does not come that easily. Employers want good workers and motivated individuals who will learn fast.
Employers like to know about the staff they will employ. They like to know that the worker has an awareness of what is required, that their skills and abilities are verified. Our network of 2,000 employers trust Visitoz to send suitable young people who will fit in with their work environment and work productively, as well as be fun to live and work with.
About Visitoz
Award winning, respected and in business for 26 years. Based in South East Queensland with a pick-up point in Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast, 2 hours north of Brisbane City Centre.
Money
Expect pay at award rates. The starting point is normally the Pastoral Award for a farmhand Level 1.
This typically means approximately $14.99 per hour for at least 38 hour week. This may vary from employer to employer as different rates apply to different jobs. The majority of jobs include food and accommodation at this rate. Tax will be deducted at 15%, therefore take-home pay is approximately AU$470 per week.
This means total take home earnings in 13 weeks will be approximately AUD $6,000.
It is reasonable to expect to save a significant proportion of this as the costs of living on a rural property are minimal.
The total outlay to get to Visitoz, (for example from Sydney) and then to travel on to your employer is likely to be in the region of $1,500-$2,000.
Your net saving after achieving the 88 days of rural work could quite realistically be anything from $2-4,000.
It could be significantly more than this if the farmer is able to offer you extra hours. Please note that this is unlikely to be confirmed until you have proved your abilities on the job, and will depend on the work that is available.
Realities
The cost of employing you is far more than this, typically at least $700 per week, not including the time an employer spends training and supervising you. So you need to be prepared to work hard and make yourself useful in every way possible to make sure the farmer feels you are justifying the wage.
Farms operate round the clock. The hours, pace and rate of work vary from day to day. Do not expect a clear cut 9-5 job, and be prepared to be flexible.
You are most likely to be doing entry level beginner farm work. It can be menial, repetitive, physical and you may experience some of the realities of work on the land or with animals.
The farmer is employing you to do a job, not have a holiday or cultural experience.
You may not like everything you see or experience, especially if you are not used to country and rural life. Australian farmers and the way of life can be tough and uncompromising, but try hard, work hard and be as useful as you can be and you will earn respect and be appreciated.
Expect hard work, culture shock, physical and emotional challenge. Expect it to be different to anything you have experienced before, and even different to what you expect !
Claiming your 2nd visa
Visitoz provides you with all the information you need to apply for your 2nd visa.
If you are employed full time (38 hours or more per week) you can claim all days that you are at the property, including weekends, so the 88 days are counted from your employment start date to the end date. This means that you will achieve your 2nd visa in 13 weeks.
If you are not in full time work then each working day must be counted separately and this does not include weekends. In this case it will take you longer to achieve your 2nd visa.
Our training
Our training gives an induction and preparation so you can arrive and make yourself useful as soon as you arrive with your employer. We expect you to engage wholeheartedly with a wide range of new activities, even if they may not be related to your eventual job.
The experience
Work in rural Australia is much more than a pathway to a second VISA.
It has the potential to be an adventure and an experience that we will talk about positively for the remainder of your life. But this depends on your attitude and how you apply yourself to the job. You will get out of it what you put into it.
It can also serve as proof of many qualities and abilities on your CV for the rest of your life. Determination, resilience, teamwork, finding a way to work with different types of people in an alien environment and new culture are several of the things that are very well respected by employers of all types all over the world. To do well requires application and determination.

Visitoz has been running for 26 years – why is it still relevant now ?
Visitoz has successfully placed more than 12,000 participants into rural and outback farming jobs since we started this business in 1991. The rural employment environment has evolved significantly since then.
Recent changes in employment standards, taxation of working holiday Visa holders and the requirements for second VISA sign off have resulted in rural employers seeking ever better qualified and experienced young people to fill their roles. The costs of employing rural staff means that employers will now only accept good quality motivated and effective young people.
Workers with limited relevant experience are finding it increasingly difficult to get work in rural Australia.
Visitoz has been able to meet this demand by focusing our overseas recruitment on young people with relevant skills and experience and by providing a valuable and relevant introduction to farm work. Our training course continues to evolve and provide an introduction to Australian farm work that is well respected and valued by our growing network of employers.
The training course is very effective and enables potential workers to understand the expectations and requirements of their employers whilst having a fun experience of the basics of Australian farm work.
Our employers also value our ability to assess workers attitude and competencies in person during the training course and therefore recommend them for a particular role. This ability is based on more than 25 years of making successful placements.
